OHIO DAIRY OPENS NEW CNG STATION

This week, Smith Dairy Products Co. opened a new CNG fueling station outside of Canton, Ohio. The station was designed and built by Vocational Energy at a cost of $1.5 million. The station will be used by Smith Dairy to refuel its seven CNG powered Freightliner trucks and will also be open to the public. The station can produce up to 420 DGEs per hour, which will accommodate public users and Smith Dairy’s growing fleet of CNG trucks, which Smith plans to be 100 percent CNG-powered by 2030. The fuel currently costs $1.95 per gallon. Ohio Gov. John Kasich is interested in the changes taking place at Smith Dairy, so he sent Todd Snitchler, chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, and Craig Butler, assistant policy director for Energy, Agriculture, and Environment, to attend the opening. According to the Canton Reporter, the two plan to meet in early October to discuss ways to begin using natural gas in government and business fleets.
